An entertainment outlet caretaker was slapped with a RM4,500 fine or six months' jail for operating the premises beyond the permitted time. Shah Rizan Rahman, 32, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to operating the Cowboy Bar Kota Kinabalu in Asia City here over the stipulated time at 2.20am on May 5.
Inspector Isfandiar Jasdi, prosecuting, told the court that a police team conducting an operation went to the premises and found it still operating with music blaring and 14 patrons inside.
The police questioned Shah Rizan who introduced himself as the caretaker, the workers and the patrons before detaining Shah Rizan for operating the premises beyond the permitted time.
Shah Rizan committed an offence under Section 4(1) of the Public Entertainment Ordinance 1958 which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to one year's jail or both on conviction.
In another Magistrate's Court, two men were fined RM1,500 or two days' jail each for drink-driving.
Clement Wong and Tomas Doit admitted before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to committing the offence during the wee hours on April 16 and April 2, respectively along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens here.
They were charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a fine of between RM1,000 and RM6,000 or jail of up to 12 months on conviction.
